Lead Service Lines
in Montreal

Homes most likely to have lead service lines (LSL) are those with 8 living units or less, built before 1970.

In 2019 the City of Montréal estimated there were still about 50,000 LSLs in its territory.

The quality of drinking water distributed through the municipal water conduit systemacross the territory is excellent. However, some buildings are connected to the city's system through a lead service line.

That lead can dissolve and make its way into yourtap water, particularly after extended periods of stagnation. This may result in leadlevels rising above those established as acceptable for drinking water.

In 2019, the city announced that it will take the necessary actions toensure that all lead water service lines will be replaced by 2030.

How do you know if you have a lead water service line in your building?

FAQ

How do I know if lead is in my water?

Did you already test your water with our $5 test kit? If not, purchase your kit here.

If your test shows a level 2 or greater on the chart, you have elevated levels of lead in your water. The maximum level of lead in drinking water should be limited to 5 parts per billion (indicated by colour #2 on the chart).

There is no safe level of lead in drinking water.

What should I do if I have elevated levels of lead in my water?

If your faucet tests positive for lead, you need a filter. Not all filters are capable of removing lead, especially at the rate that it comes out of your faucet. AquaNinja has a filter specifically designed to mount under your sink that removes lead particles down to 0.5 microns. If you want more information or would like to book an installation, contact us.

If your test comes back negative but still want clear, refreshing, taste and odour free water, we have a solution for that as well!

I live in an apartment / condo / I'm a renter, is it still possible to install a water filtration system?

Yes! You can easily remove your filtration system and take it with you. If you require detailed instructions or support to remove your system, just contact us.

Is there maintenance involved after I've installed the water filtration system?

No maintenance required. Filter cartridges should be replaced at least annually, or more frequently with heavy use.

How much is this going to cost?

Installed lead purification systems start at $476. Replacement cartridges start at $84.

Why should I trust you? How does the installation process work?

We have been purifying water for a long time and we're pretty good at it. We design our own products to ensure that they perform to our own high standards. When you book an installation with AquaNinja you will (a) receive professional and courteous service by professionals who do not leave messes behind after the installation; (b) receive our filtration solution, backed by a 12 month guarantee; (c) only pay after the installation is complete; (d) have AquaNinja as your one-stop shop for replacement cartridges and other water needs.
